It's full of toe-tapping melodies that were signature pieces of Wills style. This is a nice album. Recommended. Anyone who enjoys listening to the old-fashioned Texas swing of Bob Wills and the Playboys is sure to enjoy it. Asleep at the Wheel always does a good job with the music of Bob Wills, and this is certainly no exception. In fact, I like it better than some others they've done.
If not it will still give you a cozy feel for Texas swing at its finest. If you have seen the stage performance of A Ride With Bob (life of Bob Willis) as performed by Asleep at the Wheel this CD is a must purchase.
Go Asleep at the Wheel. No better musicians keeping country swing alive. Doesn't get better than this. Done in the old Bob Wills tradition.
If you like fiddle/country swing, this one can't be beat. This a frandamtastic tribute to Bob Wills & the Original Texas Playboys, & Asleep at the Wheel does ol Bob Proudly. AATW shines clearly & the well known artists, such as Willie, Reba, Dixie Chicks, Merle Haggard do not out weigh this fine rendition.
What a collection of artists here: the Dixie Chicks, Willie Nelson, Clint Black, Lee Ann Womack, the Squirrel Nut Zippers, Reba McEntire, The Manhattan Transfer, Tim McGraw and of course Asleep at the Wheel. Classic country, Texas swing - whatever you call it, it's music to enjoy for years. I loved this CD when I bought it back in 2000. The best talent, peforming strong songs. At least, it has been for me. Played it countless times while commuting in my car, danced around the house to it on several occasions I won't say more about - and six years later I still enjoy listening to it. I could live without maybe three of the seventeen tracks, but overall I treasure this music.
